Anyone starting uni this year at Dundee university?

Hiya, I'm Ethan, I'm starting my first year of university this year at Dundee university for Geography and Environmental science. I am very nervous about moving from the high school setting to moving away to uni and wanna meet people in the same boat as me!

Hi Ethan, I'm not a current student at Dundee but I know loads about it and I'm sure you'll love it. (I went to uni here ages ago and now I'm staff). It's a good city and a very supportive uni with a friendly vibe. It's not at all snobby like some places can be. The geog teaching staff are passionate. Sue Dawson's work on tsunamis is so interesting, and Ed Hall in human geog is such a good sort. I hope you connect with other Dundee students on here. Just didn't want to leave you hanging without a reply when you said you were nervous.

Yes, mature student who’s accepted for the same course as you.

I’m far from being in the same boat, for one thing I’m ten years or so your senior, but if it helps I’m nervous too! For very different reasons, but nervous still.

I think it’s natural to be nervous — if anything, I think the cocky are more likely to take a tumble than the fretters and hard workers.

If you haven’t done so, visit RRS Discovery when/if you go to any more uni events before matriculation—a fascinating look at how geographical research was carried out 120 years ago, a mix of work recognisable on something like the RRS David Attenborough and “Horatio Hornblower”, another age completely. Also, they have Shackleton’s grave cross, an inspiration to anyone setting out on an uncertain journey.

Hi I am Luis and I am in the same position but studying geography + Spanish. I dont know anyone else and im a bit nervous about that, especially because I dont live near Dundee and its quite a long drive away. I also wouldnt mind getting to know a few people before I start just to settle my nerves a bit haha

Yeah I live decently far too, maybe well cross paths at the uni with geography. Hopefully when we get there nerves will settle.

Hi, I'm also going to Dundee for Uni, for architecture that is. I'm also nervous to move away and live alone, considering I live quite far away but yeah, I was almost having second thoughts of just declining and going to my local university. 😅
But as people say I think the nerves will disappear overtime.
