I’m far from being in the same boat, for one thing I’m ten years or so your senior, but if it helps I’m nervous too! For very different reasons, but nervous still.
I think it’s natural to be nervous — if anything, I think the cocky are more likely to take a tumble than the fretters and hard workers.
If you haven’t done so, visit RRS Discovery when/if you go to any more uni events before matriculation—a fascinating look at how geographical research was carried out 120 years ago, a mix of work recognisable on something like the RRS David Attenborough and “Horatio Hornblower”, another age completely. Also, they have Shackleton’s grave cross, an inspiration to anyone setting out on an uncertain journey.
