PGCE 3-7 or 5-11?

I know this depends on myself, but I need some generic advice about which is better to study, or pros and cons. Also I need advice about which would genuinely open up more job opportunities? I’ve worked in both age ranges as a TA and loved both. I’m struggling which I should study for in September.

I forgot to mention I applied and got accepted. I have also completed my interview and have scored a place.

5-11 because then you get extra money for tutoring on SATs and 11+. As in you can do tutoring etc. You can also apply to mark sats papers for more money.

Thank you for this! I am considering tutoring too in the future. But is it possible to still tutor 5-11 whilst studying a PGCE for 3-7? Some people tell me they have considered tutoring for 3-7 ages too.

With 3-7, some parents may question your ability to teach year 5 and 6 pupils. They may have a preference for a tutor who has trained in those year groups and have taught them.

Not many parents will pay for 3-7 tutoring as sats are in year 6 then 11+ exams are in year 6.

Those are very good points! Thank you! If I do choose the 3-7 route, I’ve been told I could still be placed in 5-11 during my ECT years. Is this true?

Yes, it depends on the headteacher really on where they want you.
