Dropped out of uni

Hi guys,

I dropped out of Imperial back in February but tbh I’m a bit unsure in what I actually want to do. Unfortunately, I have missed the application deadline in a uni course I guess I had an interest in and will have to wait until the next academic year to apply and then wait until September 2026 to actually start the course.
I’m not too sure what careers interest me and I have spoken to a careers advisor at Imperial prior to withdrawing.
I have a part time job currently so I am making money in the meantime.

Any help/advice is appreciated

Why do you think you have missed the deadline for courses in which you are interested?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're going through a bit of a confusing time at the moment, but please rest assured you aren't the only one with these feelings.

It sounds like taking a year out might be a blessing in disguise. Like you said, you are working and therefore earning some money, keeping busy and getting some experience of a workplace. Have you considered taking some time out to travel as well? Taking some time to seriously self-reflect and evaluate what's important to you and your goals sounds like it would be really helpful for you 🙂

As has been said, what do you have an interest in? What motivates you? What kind of work do you think you would enjoy? Even having a bit of a think about what you definitely do NOT want to do might be a good start.

You have plenty of options - you could look into apprenticeships, or you could apply for a uni course you think you might like. Perhaps go to a few open days of unis who do courses you might be keen on, ask questions about what its like to study there, get a feel for whether you could see yourself enjoying it. You don't have to have your whole career planned out right now - sometimes people take several paths before they find the right one, and you have bags of time.

Plus, did you know there are plenty of jobs you can get into with any degree subject, so even if you change your mind later down the line there are always options to move around until you find something you can apply yourself to.

I hope some of this helps, best of luck with your next steps.

You can apply for clearing on results day

Surely it is only the equal consideration deadline you've missed?
The majority of courses are still open for late applications
