Will I get 0 marks for my higher English portfolio

I had three arguments in my essay two being my own and the conclusion being by own, however I used AI for one of the paragraphs I'm really stressed that I will get zero marks

The following answer is primarily sourced from Malpractice: Information for centres, published by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

AI falls within plagiarism - "failure to acknowledge sources properly and/or the submission of work that is not the candidate's own (this could be another person's work or work taken from a generative AI source".

Appendix 1 ("Examples of penalties for candidate malpractice in SQA external assessments") provides two examples of an appropriate penalty for plagiarism: "Warning with revision of marks" and "Cancel component or award".

However, this is for "Significant amount of plagiarism in one or more of the contributing pieces". What you've described, "used AI for one of the paragraphs", does not seem like it could be described as a "significant amount of plagiarism". So the most likely outcome is a "Warning with revision of marks" (so you'll lose marks, but not all of them). Assuming they detect the AI use, that is.

Actually, you might still get no marks for using AI, as they can assume that you used AI for the whole piece (even if it was only for a paragraph) and therefore they can take all the marks off for your folio and potentially the rest of your exams
