Linacre College Oxford

Hello, I am an incoming postgraduate student and have been offered a place at Linacre College (I am not familiar with the College system so didn’t realise that this matters as much as it seems to). Having seen lots of rather negative review I wondered if anyone has been a member themselves or knows anyone who has attended and can provide some insights (eg social life, accommodation etc.). Also do people at Oxford socialise across colleges? Thanks so much in advance!

People socialise across colleges. College life is what you make of it. You can choose to be as involved or not involved in college life as you wish. You can socialise through your faculty, and by joining university-wide clubs. Graduate colleges tend to be quieter than undergraduate colleges, because graduate students are older and may have left their party days behind them.

I'm going to Linacre too! I've only heard good things about it from my friends who have been there before and I selected it as my preference in my application.

What department are you in? Also got Linacre but can't seem to find anyone in my field...

Hi did you all apply for the college accommodation? Do you know how soon they will inform about the accommodation choice?

I got my confirmation within like 2 hours. I was very specific about what I wanted though.

That’s awesome. By the time I received the college offer, there’s no more college site en suite rooms 😢

Hope I can get one near to college site

Which accom did you end up getting? I got 5 Bradmore Road, ended up visiting Oxford a few days ago and it was a wonderful Victorian house. I personally preferred it over the 3 buildings on main college site.

Woah, I didn't expect accom to go that quickly... At least Union street has pretty large en-suite rooms, so that's nice. And the walk will be quite nice. Are you doing a Masters or a Ph.D.?

Got allocated Linacre and am doing MPhil Sociology and Demography. No wayyyy Bradmore is gone too?? Unfortunate. Unsure what I'm going to indicate as my preference.

I receive my college offer today, and was allocated to Stoke House

As a former Linacre member, i would say the college staffs are quite responsive and helpful. Also 51 union street rooms are nice...though a bitfar away from the main site!
