Need Guidance on Next Steps – Gap Year Student with Resit Results

Hi everyone,

I’m currently on a gap year and recently resat a unit for my Health and Social Care qualification. I’ve just received my results, and I now have 80 UCAS points.

I have received conditional offers from universities, but they all require 112+ UCAS points, which I haven’t met. I’m really keen to study Education, Diagnostic Radiography, or Business Management and Marketing, so I’m now unsure what my next steps should be.

Should I:
1. Contact the universities to see if they will still consider me?
2. Apply through UCAS Extra or Clearing for courses with lower entry requirements?
3. Look into foundation years or alternative routes?

I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations on what to do next. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I suggest contacting the universities you are interested in attending first and seeing if they are open to accepting students with UCAS points under the required threshold. They will likely tell you to apply through Clearing but speaking to them first will clarify your next step.

Write down the list of universities you hope to apply to and contact them individually as they may have different policies. If they are willing to consider you as an applicant, then that's great, and if not, then Clearing may be an option. They may also suggest that you will only be considered if you take a foundation year, but it's important to speak to the universities first and see what options are available and then make a decision from there.

Do any of the unis that you have applied to offer foundation years for your course? If so, look at the entry requirements and then give the uni a call.
