Hi

Congratulation on your offers! I am currently studying GEM at Swansea University and I am loving it. There are a few things that Swansea uniquely offers and would be worth considering when choosing your firm choice:

Course structure: GEM at Swansea offers early patient contact with placements in every year of study which helps make lecture content more applicable. It also offers a spiral curriculum which helps make the content easier to learn and more varied.

Graduate course: studying alongside students with a variety of clinical and non-clinical backgrounds helps you gain a new perspective on the management of patient care, fostering a more holistic and collaborative approach.

Location: Swansea is a coastal city with beautiful beaches and countryside which are easily accessible. I learnt to surf after coming here and it is such a fun escape from studying!

Support: at Swansea, student support is really good the staff are very approachable and friendly. With a smaller cohort of around 150 people, there is lots of contact with staff who are always keen to help and answer any questions.

Have a look at this link https://www.swansea.ac.uk/nhs-careers/doctor/ for other student stories and FAQs.

Hi 33fishy,

It's great that you're considering York/HYMS, which course specifically are you interested in?

For a general feel for the uni I'd highly recommend chatting to one of our current students and one of the students currently available to chat about York is actually studying a course partly delivered by HYMS too (biomedical science). Alternatively you're welcome to ask any questions you may have here. 🙂

General overview though:

HYMS is an excellent place to study and was recently ranked 5th in the UK to study medicine

The careers support is extensive and covers while you're studying and after you've graduated (they look after placements and study abroad options too).

There are a LOT of extra curricular activities, just look at our societies list!

We have a gorgeous garden campus

York the city is voted one of the safest cities in the UK year on year.

There's lots of videos for international and postgraduate students on our Youtube channel.

Hope to see you soon,
E 🙂
