Complicated SFE Situation - Not sure if I can or should apply

I applied in 2022, went to university for one term, received 1/3 of SFE.
I interrupted my studies in January 2023 and cancelled my application.
In September 2023, I joined a new course and had a new SFE application.
I am now in my second-year of university I have received 2 fulll years of SFE but including the one from 2022, I have received 2.3 x times. A second-year student would have received it 2 times.
My concern now is, I have been offered a placement and want to take it before my last year, however...
From what im aware you only can have up to 4 years of applications and so, I am not sure if I can have full complete financing from SFE for my placement and my last year?
If not, what are the different options and solutions for my situation?

Hi there,

This actually sounds fine - normally, when you switch to the version of your course with the placement year you'll be entitled to funding for the extra year with no issues.

When does the next year of your course begin?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi,
I just want to clarify, I was doing a 3-year BSc Computer Science degree in 2022 for one term and received my 1/3 of SFE. I changed course, now I have been doing my 3-year BSC Digital Media Culture and Technology course for almost two years.

If I continue without a placement, then my final year of study starts September 2025.
If I continue with my placement, then my course is 4 years long and my final year starts September 2026.

Okay, yes - this should be fine. If you extend your course by one year then you'll still be entitled to funding for all years including the placement year.

The 25/26 applications are available now and you can re-apply online.

Feel free to indicate that you're now on the placement version of your course and then we'll be able to confirm that you'll get the funding for the next two years.

Thanks, Graeme

Hi!

So, actually, I do not want SFE for this placement year, but I would like it in September 2026.

I made an application and said i don't want maintenance nor tuition, and I changed my course on my application to the 4-year version length for the placement year, but it said they would delete the application? Now im really confused how do I say im just pausing my sfe for a year... Im not really sure...

Thank you!

Hi Claudia,

If you don't want any finance for yourself or fees for this year 25/26, then you can cancel the application online in your account. Click on view/manager your application, change my application and cancel.

If you then wish finance in year 26/27 a/y, you would need to wait till these are open this time next year.

Thanks,
Claire
