Unsure about life

I'm in Year 13 and I've received two offers for pharmacy with a preparatory year. I did some work experience in pharmacy and had mixed feelings—some days I enjoyed it, while others I didn't. Lately, I've been hearing a lot about how pharmacy isn't a great choice anymore, especially with the preparatory year meaning I won't start working for five years. Plus, there are concerns about wages going down and the field being oversaturated.

I'm also worried about the debt, as I'll be taking out tuition and maintenance loans, which could add up to around £100,000.

I'm considering changing courses and looking into universities through clearing. The alternatives I'm thinking about are chemical engineering with a preparatory year, cardiac physiology, and diagnostic radiography. I've also heard about optometry, but people are saying it's becoming similar to pharmacy.

Can someone please help me out? I'm really stuck and unsure what to do

Whatever feels right to you, it’s a decision you have to make, do some research into which offers the best need that fit u something u can see urself doing in say ten years time. You’ve listen very good courses but if all are alright to u maybe look at the modules and which ever courses modules interest u most go for that. Also the grades for Optom are higher than for courses like cardiac physiology and radiography so keep that in mind

That’s very true but I think both matter so find one that allows u to earn well and enjoy bc doing a job u don’t enjoy, but with some ppl money can be a motivator

If you are so unsure (you've listed a lot of alternatives), take a gap year to work out what you really want to do. Courses such as DR are competitive and any clearing places are snapped up. You would also be interviewed and ideally need shadowing experience so that you know what the job involves. Taking a year out would give you the opportunity to research careers and salaries thoroughly, gain shadowing experience if necessary, and then you would be applying with achieved grades.

I agree although DR was in clearing for a few weeks last year but that doesn’t mean it will be again this year
