Exam at Sixth Form

Hi there! I am new in England. I am going to start Sixth Form this September 25'.

About exams, will I do exams just at the end of Year 13? For instance, at my college in Spain, we do exams every 3 weeks, more precisely, we do exams per unit/module. And at the end of year 13, in Spain, there's a selective exam (the content/topics is all you have done the last 2 years, year 12 and year 13) to enter at university (depending on what grade you do get, you would go to this university or other).

Is similar in England?
Will I do exams at year 12 A level, right? How do you find physics, chemistry, and biology? I really love all these subjects. Why many people say that it is really difficult? In Spain are the same topics.

A levels is 2 year course.
With half the course learn in year 12 (year 1)
And the rest in year 13 (year 2)
You start in September 2025 so you would do your final exams in May/June 2027
Since u have 3 none coursework subjects
You will do your exams in June 2027 so that grade will be towards ur university offer

The only exams in Summer 2026 will be AS-Level exams, if your school does them? If not, they will use previous year's exam papers for assessment to give you predicted A-Level grades.

But you will be more likely to do all 9 exam papers at the end of Year 13 in June 2027.

Most schools don't use those papers as it's too easy to cheat - please don't post wrong information.

typically u can be given general assessments throughout the year to keep track of your progress. however the real exams that count towards your final grade and can be of everything u have covered over the two year course are taken in may-june of year 13. if you do as levels though (worth half an a level) the exam is taken in year 12. in year 12 generally though you do mocks which determine your predicted grades that you'll use to apply to uni.

Hi, i am currently doing my A levels and I am in year 12. Your school may do end of topic tests if they choose, but it will not go towards anything, it’s just so they can gauge what level you are currently working at. Then at the end of year 12 in the summer, you will complete exams based on the content you have learned that year and the same will happen in year 13. Then the summer of year 13, you grades in those exams will be added together, and depending on those results is how you can get into university. It can vary depending on what subjects you take, but usually you will sit 2 papers per subject for a year. For example for biology as I take that subject, you will take to exams in year 12 at the end of the year, and 2 in year 13. In total at the end you would have sat 4 papers for biology, and each of them would be worth 25% of your total grade for biology. I hope that makes sense 😂

Hii thank you for your reply! I will choose the same subject as you, Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. How did you find biology? I am currently studying all the content (every topic) of A level Biology to be prepared for Sixth Form haha, I will start this September.
