My Experience Living at Middle Mill

Hi all,

I thought I would reshare an updated version of a post I did last year about my experience living in Middle Mill for those of you looking for an idea of what it is like to live there.

Firstly, making the decision to live at Middle Mill was majorly down to the location for me, it is right next to the Knights Park campus and only a ten-minute walk from the Penrhyn campus, which means I can have a lie in . This is also great for when you want to go to the library it is right on your door step. Plus, it’s just a short 10-minute walk from the centre of Kingston and Aldi where I did my food shop. Also therefore easy for getting the train from Kingston as well as Surbiton Station being around a 20 minute walk away making it convenient for getting into central London. I also liked the rivers running through the accommodation site, as from my room I could hear the river running. The little things like this are nice I feel when living away from home.

Middle Mill doesn't have a common room but it has lots of outdoor spaces and you can just go to Knights Park campus which has lots of social spaces like the student bar. Me and my flatmates often just spent time in our kitchen or I went to other flats kitchens as they are all a decent size.

When it came to booking my room, I was able to choose the exact room I wanted and so of course, I decided to choose one that faces the river. I would say it is best to book as soon as possible. Another tip is that the rooms on the top floors are usually bigger, and you share with less people usually 4/5 to a floor compared to 8 on the other floors, so depending on what kind of living situation you would like this is something to consider. So, booking consist of choosing a room, placing a deposit, and setting up a recurring payment method.

I was worried about sharing a bathroom before moving in, but it really didn't bother me when I lived there. There was a sink in all the bedrooms, which was very convenient. Also, in my flat of 8 there were two rooms with a shower in and two rooms with a toilet and sink. So, it is more like 4 to a toilet and shower, which means I was never waiting! I would say the best thing to do with your future flatmates is have some sort of a plan or agreement when it comes to cleaning and be respectful to ensure everyone has a nice experience of living in student halls. We even divided the flat to 4 to one toilet and shower and the other 4 to the other.

I found the staff who work at the accommodation helpful, they are in the office to answer any questions and help with any maintenance issues. Security is also on site 24/7. They have bin bags you can take from the office so you don’t have to buy any and they will exchange notes for pounds so you can use them on the washing machines and dryers.

I hope this helps and if there are questions please ask, I am happy to answer

Hi,

Usually the smaller flats are on the top floors while the floors below are often 8 people in blocks like H, G, J, K. But when you book you can see how big the flat is so make sure to check that.

I hope this helps

Hi,

I stayed on the third floor in block H. I liked it and think it was maybe quieter compared to to some with bigger kitchens like J. Also H was next to the river which I liked.

When you book you should be able to see a map of the accommodation site to make it easier to choose your preferred block location.

Middle Mill is quite a small site, so from what I found there wasn't much difference between blocks.

I hope this helps
