9 merits so far on my access course given up

I have submitted 2 units for my access course so far contributing a total of 9 credits and I have been marked a merit on all of them this is so demotivating and makes me not want to pursue the course any further.

The reasoning for the grades is extremely vague never pointing out where the lack of content is or what you actually did wrong

I assume you're disappointed in the merits because you need some distinctions to gain entry to university? Do you have any offers right now? What are their conditions in terms of your Access to HE Diploma? Can your offers "survive" 9 credits at merit?

yes i can but just about one of my offers requires 30 distinctions and 15 merits and the other 36 distinctions and 9 merits

Eeek!

The fact that "The reasoning for the grades is extremely vague never pointing out where the lack of content is or what you actually did wrong" must be very frustrating. I assume you've tried to press for more useful feedback?

Are there others on your course who are "stuck" on merits too? Are you friendly with anyone who's getting distinctions? Could they potentially help you bridge the gap?

It's difficult to advise without seeing your feedback or work.

Was the feedback clear? Did the tutor explain what you needed to achieve a distinction?
For example, in one of my assignments, I received a "merit" for communication because my referencing did not follow Harvard style.
If you are unsure how to improve your work, you have the right to ask for clarification. Tutors are there to help you learn how to complete assignments well, not to fail you.

If you disagree with your grades, you can always appeal—check the policy. I once appealed a merit, and it was changed to a distinction.

Don't despair about your offers. Would you still be able to meet any of them if you achieve distinctions in your remaining assignments?
If so, I’d be happy to share some tips on how to achieve a distinction or at least what has helped me.

And yes, I agree—the grade descriptors are useless!
