Cardiff or Bangor uni

I have applied for physical geography/geography at Bangor and Cardiff. Does anyone know the pros or cons of either ?

Unfortunately everyone's pros and cons will be different. One person will rave about a particular uni because of the sports centre, or the night life, or whatever - but to a person who isn't interested in those aspects of uni life, those "pros" would be irrelevant. What's important to you in a uni, or in a physical geography/geography course?

It really depends on what you want to get out of uni/the experience you want. I may be a bit biased, but I'd say if you're looking for somewhere for the area, Bangor is the place to go. We have the mountains and sea on our doorstep, so great if you're interested in the outdoors. The city is a lot smaller than Cardiff, so has a more town-y feel to it, but still has all the shops, pubs, and night clubs.

Hiya!

I did human geography, so slightly different, but some of my friends did physical, and I have been a student here at Cardiff for almost 4 years now and I love it.

Pros:

Great city, and location - everything is in walking distance (where students live, uni campus, city centre, bute park and more)

Great sense of community, and social activities - especially in our students' union, which is the 2nd best in the UK! There are societies, activities, events for everyone!

Lovely teachers and supportive staff

Great career opportunities and networking events

Field trips and variety of module options to cater to your likes and aspirations

Cons:

Might be a bit more expensive to live in Cardiff than Bangor

But I can't speak on Bangor, but Cardiff is higher in rankings, and is such a great a place to be a student, with so much to do and try out! I highly recommend!
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

I've got offers from both and I would honestly say the main difference was Cardiff was a lot bigger

Hi 2nd year finance and banking student at Bangor. I’m originally from South Wales near Cardiff and Swansea. I have actually been to Cardiff university with my mates on nights outs, and actually been in some of their public places and private places (due to having many mates there so they been there with that said student) so basically all I’m going to ask here is, what do you want out of uni? Like people have said it will be different for everyone, but I feel I can offer a view that some others might not be able to. So ask away? 🙂

Hey so I have no experience with the unis themselves but I live very close to Bangor. It is a great uni especially for ur course as its right in the middle of lots of nature so I know they do lots of trips to places however its small the bit where students go out is pretty cool decent shops and bars so the night life isn't terrible and like the other comments have mentioned north wales is beautiful if thats what ur looking for but if you're looking for a city life I would say Cardiff is the place to go.

I would definitely add here that even though “nightlife isn’t terrible” it’s not great by any means! It’s very below mediocre, it’s more of a pub town versus a “nightlife” sorta town 🤣 North Wales is absolutely beautiful tho! mewn gwirionedd, rwy'n credu mai Gogledd Cymru yw rhan harddaf y UK (dk if u understand Welsh I assume u do since your area) but I would definitely say it’s a great place to study, but definitely quite a boring place and u do have to travel to Llandudno to even watch a decent movie!

yeah im probs a bit biased cos im a fan of the pub culture we have here lol but yeah clubs n stuff anywhere in north Wales is going to be adjacent to shocking loll probs worth mentioning some areas of bangor are questionable but thats the same for any city, TLDR if you love a pub and nature then Bangors a good option ahah and I agree north wales is very very beautiful!
