University of Edinburgh / Masters of Soial Work

Hello! I’m curious to know how challenging the Masters of Social Work program is at Edinburgh University?

For students with ADHD do they have supportive disability accommodations?

Is it graded classes? How many students to a class?

I would be coming from America to study for two years as a 34 year old for the program. I have been out of school for some time and worried about keeping up!

Thank you!

Hello,

It’s great to hear that you are coming over to study at Edinburgh after being out of education for a while, I’m sure you will really enjoy it!

Although I’m not an Edinburgh student I have a bit of advice that might help you and allay some of your concerns. I would contact the university student support team and discuss with them the ADHD you have. Ask what student support Edinburgh is able to provide you with. At Chester university there is a lot of assistance for students with every form of disability and I’m sure Edinburgh will be no different and will be able to provide you with masses of help with your academic studies and in general.

Next I would speak to the postgraduate admissions team at the university, explain that you have been out of learning environments for 10 years and are worried about keeping up. You really won’t be alone in this as a lot of mature postgrads come back to university after a period of time. Universities have academic skills departments in place to support you every step of the way - with research skills, writing etc so just ask what is available.

Finally in terms of the course structure and class size, this is a question to raise with the department, if you drop them an email, you can ask anything that isn’t answered on the course description section of the prospectus.

I hope this helps, good luck with your study journey,
Jess
