Gap year

Hi I was hoping you could help. I have been living in the UK for 8 years but am originally form the Netherlands. I have a place at a University in the UK form 2025. I have taken a gap year after my A levels but want to apply for student finance. My parents have moved abroad after my A levels. Am I still eligible for student finance?

Hi there, was your gap year outside of the EU/EEA? Thanks, Jason

Thanks. If you were on a temporary break then you can send evidence of this and upload it to your account. I've advised alternative evidence to confirm the temporary break that you can send

A letter from HEP confirming gap year

A letter from the employer on headed paper confirming temporary employment including dates

A contract from the employer that clearly shows the employment is of a temporary nature

A letter from HM armed services/Commanding Officer etc

Temporary visas or work permits

Thanks, Jason

Where evidence has been requested to show that the student maintained a connection to the UK documents such as bank statements and utility bills can be reviewed

Does it make a difference that my parents have moved abroad after my A levels? Thanks for your help!

Hi Zapper67,

No, as long as you are still in the UK on the first day of the academic year and are able to provide the temporary absence evidence.

Thanks, Clare
