Can I Still Pursue My Passion to Work in Early Years Without a Science or Maths GCSE?

Hey everyone, I’m really hoping for some advice or insight. I’m currently working as a nursery practitioner, and I’ve always had a deep passion for working with young children. I want to work as a qualified nursery teacher or Reception teacher (ages 2-5), and I’m determined to get a degree in Early Years Education or something similar to become fully qualified.

Here’s the thing: I don’t have a GCSE in science or maths, but I’m planning to complete a Functional Skills in Maths to meet the requirements. I already have a Level 2 qualification in early years, and I’m planning to do an Access to Higher Education course to prepare for university.

My main question is: Do I need to have a GCSE in science or maths to pursue a career in Early Years Education? And if so, can I take these alongside my degree once I start university, or do I need to have them done before applying?

I’m also currently re-taking some GCSEs, like RE and Sociology, and I’m wondering if there are other pathways or ways to work around these qualification gaps. I’m feeling really motivated to follow my passion and would appreciate any advice from people who’ve been through similar situations.
