Work experience for Yr12

I'm currently looking for any work experience in finance and I'm in Yr12, however, I haven't had much luck yet. I've applied to some major companies. I also started looking into economic essays and hope that'll help me in the future.

I would love it if anyone could recommend me any places which are currently offering some work experience, mostly in the financial sector.

Thanks

Do a quick google search, there’s a bit of online work experience you can do. Failing that, try emailing some local businesses.

Local businesses are your best bet, as they tend to be more willing to take on teenagers/young adults for work experience.

I'd also look into any charities that may be wanting someone to volunteer to help with their finances. Even reach out to some and ask if you could do that, even if they're not advertising for it.

You could also offer to help people with budgeting and their finances, either as volunteering (so for free) or as a little part-time job.

Also look into maths awards, olympiads, and competitions that you could get involved in.

You could reach out to local newspapers and ask if you could get work experience with them, specifying an interest in writing about finances. You could also join your school newspaper and write a financial column.

Economic essays are a good idea, so continue looking for and applying to them.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions feel free to ask me. 😊

Hi @asadbek.moon ,

Getting experience is a great idea! However I completely understand it can be difficult. Here are somethings I personally did/ recommend:

Work Experience Week - Many companies are willing to allow students to do a weeks work experience within their business where you can learn a bit about how the business is run and shadow current employees. You could go about this by politely emailing a company or asking in person, remember to really show your passion! You may benefit from contacting smaller business as you may be more likely to get a response.

Online Work Experience - If you want experience with a major company, check out if they provide online work experience opportunities, this can allow you to learn more about finance while also getting to know the company.

Volunteering - Volunteering at charity shops is an excellent way to begin gaining experience, you could even ask to assist with finances, but just general experience with how a shop is run is great.

As the other response stated, local business will be a better option. They are much less competitive than major corporations for jobs/ work experience and can be a great learning environment.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
