How important are GCSEs to a university’s

My GCSEs grades are 9888876665
My a levels are maths further maths economics and computer science
I am looking to apply for a maths related course to some very competitive universities like imperial, ucl, oxbridge. Seen as I will be sitting the TMUA and maybe the STEP, if I get a really high score in these would my average, gcse grades affect me getting into these unis and what order do these unis prioritise things like predicted grades, admissions exams, supercurriculars, GCSEs.

In terms of weighting, I reckon GCSEs could be a little less than supercurricular at cambridge, and equal to at oxford.

Although admissions statistics indicate that a much higher percentage of admits have straight 9s, its correlation not causation. Those applicants tend to strive for excellence, in everything, which strengthens all aspects of their application, which is why they got admitted (not solely because of their GCSEs).

While it is considered, it isn’t going to be the sole factor to your admission. It is what it is, and you just have to be a bit more competitive with other aspects of your application than those who got straight 9s, and show them you’re capable. Best of luck!
