Can any mature students share their experiences?

I have an offer for Uni of Lincoln as a mature student and I was wondering if any current mature students could share their experiences. I plan to stay in the student accomodation on campus, am I going to stick out like a sore thumb? I am twenty nine years old and my partying days are mostly behind me, are their many other mature students in accomodation/ are their any societies or meetups to meet people my age. I don't mind having younger friends but I don't have the energy to go out most nights so I feel like I might miss out on a lot of the social stuff with them.

Hi there @accurate-spinner

I’m 22 and living in halls. While I’m not at Lincoln, from my experience, you won’t be the only mature student in accommodation, though they may be less common. If Lincoln offers the option, you might want to request a quiet or non-alcoholic flat to be with like-minded people.

You probably won’t stick out as much as you think—most younger students are friendly and welcoming, and you can still be social without going out every night. Many universities have mature student groups or societies, so it’s worth checking if Lincoln has something similar. You can also suggest alternative social activities like movie nights or meals out. At the end of the day, it’s not a big deal if you don’t hang out with your flatmates all the time—what matters is being friendly and getting along 🙂

I'm 40 and I still look 21; other students assume I'm around their age 😂. But seriously, no one really cares and the majority of people should get along. Although, I very much doubt you will go out with them; you should see if the university has a mature student society.
