I'm confused about how the marks are given in IAS EDEXCEL!!

I'm doing bio , physics n chem (IAS) and I'm not sure whether the marks from each of the 3 units are added together and given a mean or something. Can somebody clarify this for me , please?

Each AS for Sciences has 3 papers and a mark. 🙂

IALs use basically the same system England used to until like 2017.

Essentially you have 6 units per science (3 AS, 3 A2) and after each exam is sat and marked, they look at the distribution of raw marks on each unit (the actual scores obtained) and then work out based on percentiles what each raw mark should correspond to out of a given number (these are your standardised marks or UMS) for each of your units.

The sum of your UMS scores is what is used to work put your grade as 80% UMS corresponds to an A, 70% UMS corresponds to a B, 60% UMS corresponds to a C etc, but 80% UMS doesn’t necessarily correspond to 80% of the raw marks etc.

An A* is awarded if at least 80% of the UMS across all your units is obtained, but you have averaged 90% UMS across the A2 units.

In a nutshell, don’t worry exactly what all the above means, just try to get the highest marks you can on each unit.
