Army Entry Requirements for Sight
Hi, my 16yr old son is currently in the process to applying for the army. He went to the opticians today for them to complete the Eyesight Form. With corrective lens, his eye sight is within the acceptable boundaries. But he has an astigmatism. One eye is cyl -3, the other -3.5. Is this acceptable. I have spent all afternoon scanning the internet but read conflicting opinions. Obviously will call recruitment line on Monday, but Monday is a long way off with a disappointed teenager!

I can't really help with your question because I'm a foreigner and not familiar with the UK standards, but as an optometrist I have to comment on the level of astigmatism.
Has he been checked for Keratoconus?
