Is it too late to apply for a maintenance loan for my third year, and if I apply now,

I began my third year at the end of September, thinking I could manage without a maintenance loan, but I've just applied for one now because I've been having a hard time. Is it too late for me to apply? If I do apply, will I receive any funds, and when might it arrive?

For years starting in September you have until the end of May to apply for additional funds/changed circumstances.
It normally takes 4-8 weeks for the assessment to be done. Depending on the timing you might get the entire year’s loan in a single instalment in May or if the assessment and gets processed quickly then you might get your loan split with an earlier instalment in March-April.
Have you spoken to your university to see if they can provide any hardship funding/loans to help bridge the gap?

Hi Irllydkwhat2do,

You have 9 months from the start of the academic year to apply for this so you still have time. Our current timescales are approximately 5 working days to process the Maintenance Loan Request form if you already have an approved application in place for the Tuition Fees. If you have made the application for the first time, it can take about 6-8 weeks, dependent on our current volumes. Once the form is processed and is accepted, you will receive an entitlement letter and the payments will schedule around 48 hours after that letter is showing on your account. The university would then need to send the confirmation of registration through electronically to release the payment to your bank which takes around 1-3 working days then 3 working days to arrive in your bank.

Thanks, Clare
