Accommodation - are the higher price place worth it ?

Best value seems the old student village (non en suite) but only £160 a week or £6k a year.

Most expensive seems to be Bailey Point at £250 a week or £13k a year.

Mid range Dorchester at £8k to £11k a year.

Everything is a cost to parents now so is X worth 2X or not ?

This is entirely subjective, unfortunately. Have you compared the facilities available at both? What "value" do you ascribe to those available at one but not the other?

Would you be happy for your parents to pay an extra £5 a week for your to have an en suite bathroom? Probably. What about an extra £25, or an extra £50? For some people, £50 would be worth it. For others it would be ridiculous to even contemplate paying that for an unnecessary "luxury".

Hi there,
Choosing the right accommodation is about balancing cost and comfort. When I meet with students at our Open Days, I encourage them to think about what's important for them in terms of living.
If you're happy with basic but good living conditions like the Student Village then go ahead with it. It is near Talbot Campus, it's quiet, comfortable and affordable. Also, as you mentioned, it is non-ensuite so if you wouldn't be happy with that then it might be worth considering other options.
However, if you know that you prefer more modern facilities and in some cases that might mean larger rooms as well (depends on which halls you look at), then it might be worth looking into the more expensive ones like the two that you mentioned.
I've lived in a few student accommodations including Bailey Point and I can definitely say I enjoyed my time there but equally now I live in a more mid-range accommodation and I am content with it as well. So, it would be good to reflect on what matters for you in terms of living situation, such as having a big bathroom, having fancier facilities, a big bed, or just a comfortable space.
Remember that you will spend an entire year living there and you should feel comfortable with whatever choice you make.
Please don't hesitate to check our website for more details and ask any questions 🙂
Best wishes,
Valeria.

Comfortable and convenient living environment can bring you a peaceful and easy mood. Especially when you met some difficulties during your study life, you would find the value of the cozy environment. In addition, you can check the duration that you stay in your room. If it is only a place to sleep for you, then a comfortable bed is just enough. However, if you also plan to study, reading, cook some easy meals, and take a bath in the bathtub in your own room, then a pricy student accommodation with luxury amenities and a private bathroom is worth.

You're right in how the costs stack up. Student Village is around £160/week, making it one of the most affordable options, while Bailey Point is closer to £250/week, with Dorchester House sitting somewhere in between.

Student Village is based at Talbot Campus, so it's great if you're not too fussed about being in the town centre or close to nightlife. It’s right next to your lectures, which makes life easy. It’s often used by postgrads and students with families, so it tends to be a bit quieter too.

It really depends on what matters most to you - location, privacy (like en-suite), and lifestyle. If you're more focused on convenience and saving money, Student Village is a solid option, or even Lyme Regis/Cranborne (nearer the other student accommodation). If being in town and having a more social vibe is important, you might prefer being in the town where the other student accommodation is situated.

Hi! A question about Bailey Point, how competitive is it when booking and when is the best time to book the accommodation? Does it have to be your firm, or can it be your insurance uni?
