Bristol vs ICL Chem

Hey, I'm struggling to decide whether to firm imperial or bristol for chem. I would've definitely chosen ICL, if I didn't live really close to South Ken already, and if my secondary wasn't right next to White City, so I've essentially been hanging around icl for most of my life, and idk how much of the social aspect of it will be new to me - definitely not nearly as much as in bristol. I went to pretty much every programme by imperial I could get into, and would sometimes sneak into the campus to f about w my friends. I was just certain that icl would reject me so I was already set on bristol :frown: Plus all those sweaty tryhard students at imperial scare me, I went to a selective school so most of the people around me already were so much smarter than me, with no chance of me catching up, i can handle, but don't enjoy the pressure that comes with it. Plus its pretty hard to reach any natural sites/forests from london, and rent is expensive.

Plus I really enjoy computing aspect that bristol chem w scientific computing offers, from the preview I got on the offer holder day, and although i know imperial would give me a lot of agency to choose my modules, idk the extent of it. I'd really like to get into physical/computational chem w all that MO and stuff, and I'd imagine icl would also be good at that. Finally I'd like to try myself at scientific research, which both are good at. Ik that icl has summer research initiatives for their undergraduate students, I think bristol does as well. I'd also like to know which uni offers better career progression in that field, but ig it would be imperial.

So, ik that a lot of people had the same dilemma to deal with and i'd like some advise and tips on what to consider and how either choice will affect me.

Icl from what you've said it sounds like you've got your heart set on Bristol- both are great unis and even Bristol is highly ranked for chemistry regarding employability as well as overall course rankings. If you look on Bristol's website there's loads of info about placements during the summer (this may be abroad or in the uk can't quite remember)

Imperial is more prestigious and the 2nd best in Europe for stem in 2024… it’s also ranked 9th best uni in the world compared to Bristol at 55th I believe (correct me if I’m wrong). Also Bristol also a Russel group and prestigious; the pressure will be high there too. Nightlife and social life in Bristol is great. I live here so ik.

Hi have you managed to decide yet? I'm in the exact same position with Bristol vs Imperial for chemistry
In my mind its either Imperial which is much more prestigious and probably better for grad prospects but then Bristol is also highly regarded for chemistry and just in general (im pretty sure bristol has really good chem research) as well as a better social life in bristol
im also a bit worried everyone around me is going to be super smart at imperial and study quite a lot and dont want to fall behind

a lot of my friends and classmates firmed imperial, and since they gave me an offer which is one grade higher than bristol I decided to firm imperial and insure bristol, rly didn't feel like the other unis I got offers for were my cup of tea, even as insurance. Hbu? What did you settle on?
