Saving for uni

I am looking to start saving up for university as I will need to pay for transport and food etc.
I already have a job but I am looking for a way to make more money so that I am able to financially support myself. Does anyone have any recommendations or extra part time jobs or anything else they did to make some money over the summer? Thank you!

Hi @aifrhbghuw9222r

I was in a similar situation before I started uni. I worked a part time job similar to yourself, which is where I saved up most of my money.

I also tried to earn and save money by selling things I no longer needed. I managed to make a reasonable about of money from selling my old clothes on Vinted and then I used this money for Freshers' and to use for 'leisure' related spends like going out with friends or social activities. You could also try car boots, or other online sales websites like Depop and eBay to see if you can make some extra cash.

You could see if there are any summer events near you that require temporary staff. This way you can work your normal job and then take on extra work for a few days as event staff. This could be music festival work, summer fairs, school holiday clubs, that sort of thing. I usually see ads for this type of job on Indeed or LinkedIn, so could be worth a look closer to the summer.

Another thing you could look into for when you start uni is jobs available at your university. Most unis employ students as ambassadors or in roles around campus, like in campus shops or student pubs. These shifts are usually flexible around your studies, so maybe see if your uni offer anything like this so you can earn while you study.

Hope this helps.

Is there any scope for you working extra hours at your existing job -- for example, covering when your colleagues are taking their summer holidays?

Sometimes you see adverts for leaflet distributors. That might be worth looking into.
