English GCSE Vocabulary

Does anybody have any recommendations on how to learn English vocabulary for English GCSE because I need to learn a range of it to increase my grade.

It's probably best not to sit down with a list of vocab and memorize it. If you try to force fancy vocab into your answers, then you probably won't get much credit for it unless used effectively. I'd recommend you try to read as many fiction books as possible to get you used to different styles of writing and linguistic techniques.

Hey @dmordips,

As Availing pointed out, fiction books are a great place to start for improving your vocabulary - however, you can also improve it by reading news articles, playing word games (e.g. wordsearches) or even just watching shows/movies with subtitles. If you come across a word in everyday life that you're not sure the exact meaning of, look it up and see what synoyms exist. Improving your vocabulary is much less of a conscious process than it is something you'll see developing over time; try to use a new word everyday, or think about how you can phrase your everyday thoughts differently.

Hope this helps and best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
