sakura's gyg year 11!!

hi! i saw a lot of people were doing this so i wanted to make a gyg myself!

mock results:
mandarin chinese aqa: 9
eng lang aqa: 9
eng lit aqa: 8 (i want 9! have to work on poetry as our english teacher left the school halfway through year 10 and we had no teacher for ages)
spanish aqa: 8 (i want 9 and the thing bringing me down is general conversation as i scored 9/8 in the rest)
biology aqa: 8 (hope i can get 9 on this!)
rs aqa: 8 (i was like 2 marks off a 9 due to silly mistakes!!!)
art aqa: 7 (because i need to finish courseworkk)
physics aqa: 7 (i think this was due to the maths part... i want 8/9)
maths edexcel: 6 (very very close to 7!! hope i can get 8 at least)
chem aqa: 6 (i really don't understand chem but i want at least 8)

so i need major help in chemistry and maths!! i don't really understand the way my chemistry teacher explains things, so i can't really ask him for help. i have asked my maths teacher to help me though so hopefully that will help!

overall, if you have any tips on how i can improve my grades before the gcses in may, please do send them here!! -- especially chem, maths, phys, power and conflict poetry, spanish general convo)

I haven't taken my chem gcse yet but am predicted a 9. So I would say for chemistry, definitely use Freesciencelessons on the topics that you are struggling with - he explains it so simply that it makes the topic much easier! Also, make sure that you print out the spec and with your textbook, just go through the things that will actually be assessed! I do know that textbooks waffle a lot and it can make it more confusing...
For maths, Mr Astbury (yt channel) helped me a lot! And ofc, keep on doing past papers. At first it seems like you aren't getting much out of it, but if you keep looking over where you've went wrong there is ALOT of repetition.
For Spanish general conversation, just literally talk to anything (even yourself) in Spanish so that you improve kind of 'thinking' in the language. Also, I find watching Spanish vlogs super fun to improve my listening and speaking skills. Last but not least, you can get those question booklets and kind of prep a lot of answers too! Ofc, if your school hasn't given that, you can always make your own 🙂
Hope this helps, you're doing gr8! ❤️

this is such good grades! for maths go over your mock paper and see what u have done wrong and try practise questions on that to boost your grade and for chem i recommend freesciencelessons as he teaches u the content super easily and its very helpful and after that use cognito to help expand ur knowledge and once you think u know the content try some past papers and improve what u got wrong e.g maybe you dont know how to balance equations? focus on that

this is so good congrats i wish i got grades like that😭

Well done on your mock results! You did amazing:clap2:

With chemistry and maths, the best way to improve is doing a lot of practice questions (especially for maths). I struggled with both subjects as well. With chemistry, I found it useful to watch a video on Youtube about a topic, and then when the video ended I wrote then everything I could remember from the video and then I rewatched the video and noted down anything I missed in another colour. This really helps to know where your gaps in knowledge are so you know where to focus revision. With maths, I binge watched GCSE Maths Tutor on Youtube  Also Corbett Maths 5 a Day is really useful as it exposes you to many types of questions. With maths, the types of questions tend to repeat just with different numbers so the more questions you do the more prepared you are. Hope this advice helps

Hiii!

For chemistry, I use chemrevise. It kinda saves you writing notes as they are already so simplified and then you can just make a mindmap or smt to help retain.

I used to struggle with power and conflict until I found my 4-5 most liked and easiest poems. I revised those in detail and got pretty good grades for it on this mock (except acc which is my weakest). I do read over the other poems, annotating them roughly just to have a decent understanding of them but I kinda just make up my inferences as I go along. To remember quotes, I use anki which is so helpful bcs it knows which ones you struggle on and then repeats them. I also made my own like detailed notes for my chosen poems which I can pm if u want. To choose your poems, I would recommend looking for your best poems which almost cover every theme.

Maths is legit just practice. Find out what areas you struggle on and then repeat those exam questions. If u need me to explain any topic, lmk and I’ll do my best.

Good luck for GCSE’s and you’re grades are already great so no need to worry 😊

aww tysm!!! ooh chem revise i’ll try that! i use anki for mandarin but i didn’t think of using it for quotes so I’ll definitely do that! for maths it’s mainly the harder questions at the end😭 and probably line equations on graphs like quadratics😭 i can solve quadratics i just don’t get the ones that are like “… point lies on the quadratic graph… solve…)
