Scared about UCL econ without FM

I have 3A* predicted in maths econ Geo + A EPQ. GCSES 99886A*A*A*A. I dont take FM though so i tried to compensate by adding some maths in my PS, but im worried that wont be enough. Thoughts on my chances?

Hey applied with 3A* with math bio and chem, and similar gcses, to be truthful our chances probably are low. But you never know. Just got rejected from bath for economics which I was not expecting. So who truly knows. Sorry for the lack of definitive response but interesting to see people are in the same situation as me

Same I got rejected from Bath this year aswell and I was shocked. I got rejected on Tuesday and I was fully expecting an offer. I only had 2A* in maths and chem with A in physics. Also applied for UCL but many of the candidates UCL accept have 3A*. I think you guys have a better chance than you think.
For your bath rejection did they say they were impressed with your application but they just didn’t have any more space as that’s they said on my UCAS

A*A*A predicted should have been enough for an offer, it’s really odd previous years people have been getting offers with 3A’s etc…

You might be the only person I’ve seen get a bath offer, fair play

Yeah I know, it could be that they were contextual only. I looked at baths economics acceptance rate for a previous year, I think it was like 2022 or 23 and it was near 90% acceptance rate. So when I saw the rejection you could imagine I was very surprised

This is what I’m saying they don’t reject people normally especially with good grades. I’ve emailed but doubt it’ll do much

what kind of maths things did you include for no further?

I included stuff about heteroskedasticity which i noticed in my EPQ (which is a term used in econometrics) and i linked it to how it can be corrected using weighted least squares (which is part of stats). I also talked about this maths book i read and how much i ‘love’ maths and how i find it particularly relevant to economic modelling. I used the example of Markov chains modelling consumer purchasing behaviour, which is basically just probabilities reflecting the likelihood of consumers switching products and how that links to economics. Basically the overall message was like how maths makes econs ‘real’ rather than it being purely theoretical. Not sure thats enough to compensate for the lack of FM though.
