Help with transferring after foundation year

Hello

Thank you in advance for helping me

I am currently doing a foundation year at City St Georges university for the Bsc in mathematics. The is only a month left till the end off the foundation year. I am looking to transfer to a Russel Group University as a research career is something I have in mind. I have seen both Queen Mary and Kings take foundation years but I am not sure where to begin with the application process or who to contact. I achieved CDD in my a levels, I understand the a levels are below average however this is due to extenuating circumstance which was later diagnosed as mental health problems, to put into perspective I only sat 4/9 a level exams and they took an average to calculate my grade. My foundation year grades are high, I achieved 76% in the first half and am doing even better in the second half off the foundation year. Is it possible to transfer? Do I stand a chance?

You have left it incredibly late to apply to any RG Unis this year - their courses may already be closed.
And many RG Unis are very picky about which Foundation years they accept.

You need to phone round Unis tomorrow - don't email, it will take too long to get a response, and ask a) is their Maths course still open to applications, b) do they accept your Foundation course and c) what final grades do they want?

Be aware that they will require your UCAS reference to be from your current Uni, so you will need to talk to talk to your Personal Tutor or similar about transferring.

I recently managed to transfer from Nottingham to Sheffield to do Engineering which is more competitive at Sheffield for September 2025 after doing a Foundation Year at Nottingham. It should be possible to still transfer, but I would recommend applying for both their Foundation Year and direct entry into the first year though.
