UCLAN Vet Med application through clearing

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice! I originally applied for Psychology for 2025 entry (applied early due to Oxbridge) but have now realised it’s not the right choice for me. I’ve always wanted to do Veterinary Medicine but made a last-minute switch, and I’m now certain that I want to go back to it.

I take Biology, Psychology, and English, along with an EPQ, and I’m predicted A*s in all of them. I really like the course at UCLan and was wondering about the likelihood of getting in through Clearing (depending on spaces) or if I’d be better off reapplying next year.

Any advice would be massively appreciated! Thanks in advance.

UCLan was only in clearing the 1st year of running the vet med course. In their 2nd year of the course- last year- they didn’t go into clearing as they ran a waitlist instead so it is unlikely they will be in clearing this year. The only vet school that is always in clearing is Nottingham but I am not sure they would consider you if your original application was not for vet med. A lot of vet schools do require Chemistry A level too so if you do decide to apply next year you will need to look at which do not require Chemistry.

Thank you!

I switched to Psychology after realising that chemistry is a requirement for most, if not all, vet schools. However, I’m still very passionate about pursuing a career in the field.

I asked my school if I could complete the chemistry PAGs next year and study independently for the A-level, as the practical endorsement is required, but they said it wouldn’t be possible. I was wondering if you might know of any alternative options, as funding the practicals privately is quite expensive.

I do have relevant work experience at local vet clinics and farms, so I’m keen to find a way forward.

I’d really appreciate any advice you can offer.

It really is a case of looking at admissions requirements for each vet school- as my knowledge might be out of date as my daughter applied 2 years ago. I know UCLan do not require Chemistry and I believe there is a course leading into vet med at Nottingham if you do not have Chemistry.
Things change each year on requirements so it’s a case of checking each vet school year on year. SRUC is the newest vet school - based in Aberdeen - not sure if their requirements but think they only have 5-10 places for RUK students if you are RUK.

Just had a look at that uni and that one just needs one science! So thank you…
I will keep an eye out for any potential clearing places for UCLan - if not It looks like I’ll be reapplying next year!

I wouldn’t start a psychology degree if your heart is in vet med.
Look at Nottingham gateway too.
Are you on the main TSR vet med 2025 thread?
That would be a good place to ask advice as the other option is access courses but I don’t know enough about that.
