Manchester placement year accounting

Hi, I was just wondering what the likelihood of being accepted onto a placement year is after applying from Manchester uni and any tips when it comes to applying?

As this would be the deal breaker between me choosing to study in Manchester where I pay fees or in Scotland where Its covered by the government.

Thanks for any help

Assuming you're referring to Manchester's BSc (Hons) Accounting with Industrial/Professional Experience then your chances of an offer, based upon recent history, are about 45% (source).

If you've already received an offer, and are asking about the likelihood of meeting the offer requirements, then I'm sure you'll realise that's an impossible question to answer given the information you've provided.

However, the same tool shows that 83% of offer-holders who get AAB (i.e. one grade below the standard A level requirement) have their place confirmed despite the missed grade.

That figure drops to 28% for ABB, and some of those may be contextual candidates.

ThanksFor the help tho

Ah, understood. I don't believe Manchester publish that information. There might be some reference to it in the Pre-Placement Handbook or the Accounting Placement Handbook, but those are only available to those with a Manchester log-in.

I can tell you is that a placement is not guaranteed as the web page for the course, here, says, "If you successfully apply for a work placement this will take place between your second and final year" (my emphasis).

I can also tell you that there is a minimum grade requirement to be able to apply for a placement as the Alliance MBS Undergraduate work placements guide has a FAQ which asks "Do I have to achieve a minimum grade to apply for a placement?" for which the answer is "Yes each degree programme has a different set of requirements - visit our online handbook: ambs.ughandbook.manchester.ac.uk." That detail is buried within Options Fact Sheet for BSc Accounting with/without Industrial/Professional Experience which lists the "Criteria for Industrial Placements" as:
Pass first year with an overall average of 55% or higher
Pass a total of 80 credits (of first year course) with 40% or higher and reach 30% in all remaining course units
Pass BMAN10760 - Auditing & Professional Accounting Practice with a mark of 40% or higher at the first attempt.
In Year 2 the candidate must have no reassessment."

Those requirements don't sound too onerous to me. However, not meeting them "will result in the student being transferred to the programme of the same title without industrial/professional experience".

If you do accounting at A levels, first year is a walk in the park. I got an A in a levels and i ended year 1 with a first and little to no revision in some modules. Obviously modules like law and tax which i never learnt previously are some that i had to learn properly but even those were relatively easy. However, even with my A in accounting, second year has been a bit of a challenge.
