Uni sharing personal information with lecturers

Had to resit coursework due to EC and was approved

I’ve recently been emailed the coursework questions and given link/pdf to the access the questions the email also contained my full name and student number right at the start and instructions on submissions . However I also noticed that the same email was sent to my lecturers who are marking my work . This email contained my full name and student number . I’m quite shocked and upset because student numbers are a way of avoiding bias and maintaining equality. I don’t think it’s standard practice for uni to send ur lecturers ur name and student number cuz it ruins the whole purpose of being anonymous . Did they make a mistake is this normal ?
Any help appreciated

Enquire about it however I wouldn’t worry much as mature lectures wouldn’t bias

Hey,

I can understand why you’d be concerned about this. Anonymous marking is meant to prevent bias and ensure fairness, so it’s frustrating when that process doesn’t seem to be followed properly.

It’s worth checking your university’s policy on anonymous marking, as different institutions handle it differently. Some universities only ensure anonymity for standard assessments but not necessarily for resits, or special cases like yours. Since your coursework is being marked separately from the original submissions, they may not have the same system in place for anonymous marking.

That said, if you feel uncomfortable with how this was handled, you could reach out to your academic office or student support services to clarify whether this was a mistake or standard procedure. You might also want to check with your student union or personal tutors if you want to raise a concern about fairness.

It’s completely understandable to feel upset about this, but hopefully, you’ll still be assessed fairly. If you're worried about bias affecting your grade, you could request reassurances from your uni about how they maintain fairness in cases like this.

Best of luck!

It is normal in resit situations. We know who has failed in some cases months prior to resits, and there are sometimes direct interventions to be made in the light of the reasons for those failures (and so with MCs).

Anonymity is not absolute in these circumstances.
