Access course to nursing. Learn direct.

Hey. I’ve just joined here, I’m doing an access course to nursing through learn direct and wanted to see if anyone else is doing it as it’s often hard doing it solo. I’m in unit 7.

Welcome to TSR. :smile:

It might be worth asking in the nursing applicants thread:

Hey, I'm looking at doing this course, can I ask how you're finding it. I'm seeing mixed reviews, would love to hear your thoughts

@JChoules

I teach on an Access to HE Nursing and Midwifery pathway 🙂 May I recommend an excellent book for the social sciency health studies modules, and that is 'Health Studies' by Naidoo and Wills. 'Sociology' by Anthony Giddens might be useful too

Hiya @JChoules I am nearly finished with my access to diploma Midwifery with LD. You will find the nursing course intense at times. But if I can get through my course so will you. You have done amazing 👏 congrats. Keep going! Nice to meet you and best of luck in the future :smile:

Hi @LouMP I will be honest sometimes there is lack of support from tutors, customer service is not always the best because it's done virtually, the monthly payments are just about doable, but if you accidentally miss a payment they go horrible with you, the only two good things to come out of it was making friends through the community hub and completing the course gets you one step closer to your dream job. So just be aware. Take care

Hi @Helen_0275
I personally recommend you to look as well please!
I with a lot of other students have found Learn Direct to be unprofessional, unsupportive and their system unhelpful as well as tutor support, community admin support and in the past some modules have been out of date when I researched. There were some bad reviews, but since then there have been a great deal more bad reviews. Because of how current and previous students have experienced issues with Learn direct. Which course did you want to do. See if you can find the course with another online college like coursera or something finally best of luck!

Hey, I saw that your also completing the same course as me with the same provider so I wanted to ask a question. I am doing an access to midwifery course with LearnDirect I started 28th August and currently working on my 4th unit but I'm worried I wont finish it before 2026 uni entry. If you don't mind, I would love to know how long it took you to complete the units and if you think I will be able to finish before uni 2026 entry.

Hello @naz8

Lovely to hear that you have begun your journey on the Midwifery course. I wish you the very best of luck! If you have any questions about the course I will try to help you as it is a demanding course.

I finished the Access to Midwifery course diploma course in June 2025 of this year. It took me about a year to complete fully. Around being a mum of three children and a carer for my grandmother. I brought the fast-track option as I found you were waiting up to seven days to hear back from the tutor with feedback and to know if you successfully achieved, or gained a Merit or Distinction on each unit with fast track it was within a day. Congratulations on completing unit 4. You have made a great start. Now keep going!

My advice if you will find it helpful is to create a routine that fits in around your other life committments. Write deadline dates in your diary of each assignment so you have a target and something to work towards. Try to aim for 1.5 assignments each month on average if doable just to stay on track. Try to finish the course by the end of June/first week of July. So that you get your overall grades modified, ratificated and finally certificated in time for September 2026. Also make sure you are paying your course fees monthly over 12 months. As long as you get your certificate by welcome week it should be okay for university. But I advice to check with your choice of university and you must keep them informed about the process of Learn Direct so they can note it and support you.

Unit 5 is difficult however you will not be alone in that unit. It is important to research gametogenesis both male, female, correctly label the diagrams within the unit and answer each individual assignment brief or task to get the higher grades. I don't know if the material has changed since when I completed it. Good luck.

Did you have to pay for your course fully before you got your certificate?

I enrolled in Nov 2023 however I started actively in Nov 2024. I was busy with personal life commitments. I enjoyed the course most of it I had to self teach and use Chatgpt to understand as I was out of education for 8 years. I completed it on June 30th 2025 self funded and used premier credit to pay monthly I also added fast track marking to get through quickly before the deadline. It worked with my circumstances fully online .
