Product management & internships

I am a 1st year computer science student on track for a 1:1 with an upcoming spring week, a hackathon and a project for enhancing one of my universities cs modules, under my belt.

I feel I want to be a product manager, I don’t find interest in software engineering, this may be a niche question but are there any 2nd years or beyond who scored a product management (or adjacent) internship or placement, if so did you only apply to product management specific roles?

I know many say it’s unwise to niche off but I’d rather put my energy into applying to several product management roles which I actually find interesting instead of doing thing like software engineering just for the sake of broadening my options.
