What exactly is duplication of work?

I’ve heard this term a couple of times, but I’m not sure what it means. People say it’s using the same what for different tasks. Is it the same as double-dipping or self plagiarism? Also, I’ve been planning to write about historical changes of Peking Opera as an example in my TOK Essay, which I also covered as a section in my Theatre research presentation. If I use the same sources and research but adapt it for the different purposes and cite the sources correctly, would it count as duplication of work? (Also since they are parts of larger assignments). Thanks, any answer would be appreciated! I just want to stay on the safe side.

Duplication of work, especially for a HESI test taker, can mean spending extra time studying the same material or completing similar practice questions without targeting specific weak areas. This often happens when test takers follow multiple study guides or resources without a clear plan, leading to wasted effort and burnout. To study efficiently, HESI test taker should focus on structured review strategies, identify knowledge gaps, and use personalized practice to avoid repeating work that doesn't improve performance.
