Ive ruined my life

Pls help I did so bad in my mocks idk what to do

So I got ACB in my mocks. My a level predictions (ucas) are A* B A. But I rlly wanna apply to medicine, if I get A* on my end of year, and A* on my year 13 exam (which is used to boost predicted grades) do you think I could be predicted A*? My school says that ucas predictions are the most optimistic predictions. The subject I got C on is chem.
I rlly can’t take a gap year.
My previous test scores for chem were term1: D
Term2: C
Term3: C
I’m willing to do whatever it takes, I’ve rlly flipped up my life

Tbh, a grade B is generous given that you've been consistently getting grade Cs.

What is going wrong? is it a lack of understanding or just doing badly in tests? What do your teachers think?

Get your papers back and analyse where you are lsoing marks. Ask for help at school ...

As above, talk to relevant teachers and ask for their help and advice - they wont mind.

You could apply for a foundation year if you’re worried

This happened to me, got CDD in the summer mocks of Y12 when I was dead set on medicine. I convinced my teachers to let me resit in Y13 September, and grinded ALL summer alongside the UCAT and got AAA predicted. But because i focused on grades so much it did cost me my UCAT (on a gap year now) so manage your time wisely. It is not the end of the world i promise 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

You really need to work out where you are losing the marks.Ask your teachers if you do not know. There is loads of stuff online that can help for free and if you can afford a tutor they could help you work on weaknesses.

Hi there!

this is NOT the end of the world! So firstly, you need to find out where you are going wrong - is it your revision technique? Lack of understanding of the content? Memory recall?

Secondly, you can consider other entry pathways to medicine. For example, you can do a degree in biomedical science/life sciences and bypass the first stages of a conventional medical degree. This means you can study medicine starting at year 2 or 3 I believe. This is known as Postgraduate entry for medicine. I have known someone who wasn't sure if they wanted to do medicine and instead did a degree in biomedical science. Upon graduation, she realised that she liked the idea of medicine and so applied for postgraduate entry medicine.

Finally, if you do not want to do the second option then consider resitting the exams to get the required entry requirements for medicine. when you start the first year of degree, you won't be older than other first years, because a lot of people start degrees later on in life (20, 21, 22 etc) - don't let that thought hold you back! In my first year, I only knew one other 18 year old as everyone else was in their 20s.

I hope this helps!

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

if youre in year 12 (obviously u are) trust me u can turn it around in year 12 in my mocks i got
A- maths
B- Bio
C-Chem too
these were however in my march mocks however in my june ones i got A*AA and ucas grades A*A*A and now i have an offer from Uni of Nottingham for med so if you really work from now on you can do it... if u really want to study med so bad start working from today onwards.
Start showing your teachers how hard u are working be the first one in and always ask questions to make your presence known and depending on your school ofc u could definitely get that grade up!!!
Good luck

To do better in chem is to do EVERY physics and maths tutor qs. i was literally the same last year and i got C's all year 12 and now my year 13 mocks i did loads of past paper questions off pmt, youll realise they literally repeat with different numbers. and then i ended up getting over 85% for the first time it was insane. so yeah for chem i would just recommend PMT until you get everyhting right. also u have NOT ruined your life dont say that, you're doing your best and everyhting always works out. Also just to say im in the same boat as i also got ABC in year 12 mocks, a super lower B in chem and now i have an A* in year 13 mock

Hey,
I promise it's not the end of the world and you haven't ruined your life at all! I know it definitely feels like it and trust me i have been in your position,
But now, ruminating wont do your grades any good, let's think about what you can do now.
Are you allowed to get your mock papers back and go over where you made mistakes?
Can you talk to your teachers? make study groups with your friends or peers who scored higher?
Private tutoring / tutoring may be an option if you want to explore that
There's also different types of ways to get into medicine, also note that universities do offer contextual offers. It's never too late to turn things around!
Regardless, I wish you the best of luck in your studies and I promise you got this!

You can still apply but be targeted in your applications looking what their criteria is i.e. a lot of places i.e. HYMS, Liverpool, Newcastle etc allow predicted grades of AAB to apply. A lot comes to the other criteria as well as in what you get in your UCAT score and GCSE’s.

It’s okay muttley 🥀my teacher said if I get an A in the next test she can predict me A*…
And I acc got a B in the mock - it was marked incorrectly.

It's not an ideal situation but it's isn't ur life ruined, u just need to figure out how to improve, maybe consider getting tutored? I would say 0lease prioritise ur a levels in the summer, even if that means u have less time for ucat, because the truth is, u can always take a year out ans redo ucat, with a bunch of work experience ans volunteering or just saving up. Gap years sound scary but was the best thing to happen to me. I say this because resiting a levels is hard, expensive and also most colleges won't do predict3d grades for u, so u might have time take 2 years out. Also alot of med schools might penalise ur resiting and some explicitly say they don't accept resits.
So for now please try ur best to improve, speak to ur teachers, or online forums like these, anyone u know who did good in chem and ask for as much help as u can.
Good luck, u got this, remeber, there are plenty of options, and h just have to be strategic with what u do. Lmk if u need any more info

Best bet is to beg them to change it, however you need to put in the work and show good grades in your topic tests leading up to exams. I was basically in the same boat with A*AEC and I ended up with a ucas prediction of A*AA after I dropped the fourth subject that was ruining my time management. However, my grades would fluctuate a lot maths and they started out great but as I didn’t practise as much due to lack of time I got worse. But I communicated with my teachers that it was due to lack of revising so ultimately they were quick to believe that I could get an A.

Just like you, I really wanted to go to medicine straight after year 13 and started crashing out when I realised I didn’t pick my unis in UCAS wisely and wouldnt get an offer.

Thankfully, with a lot of prayers, I got an offer for med straight after year 13 so it’s definitely possible despite doing bad in your mocks but you need to work hard.

Make sure you work extra hard in all your subjects that you don’t have the grades for and try to convince your teachers.

Good luck!
