Theatre Studies or Psychology??

So I’m finalising my A-levels soon, and I’m not sure whether to take drama or psychology for my third option. For reference, I’m taking English Lit and History as my main two, and I’d like to apply to some more competitive universities in the future, but I’m still unsure about what career path I’d like to pursue.

I take drama at the moment and I really enjoy it, as well as getting really good grades in it. I’ve done it for years and done a lot of theory exams, so I find it relatively easy, as well as it helping with English Lit plays. However, I don’t like the way it’s set out and the plays studied at my sixth form, and I don’t know how inspiring I would find it, despite the good grade I think I’ll get through it.

I’m also considering psychology, as it seems fascinating and would be a nice contrast to my other options. I’m getting pretty good maths and science grades, and it seems like a shame that I’m not continuing with either, so this would be a good way of still incorporating those skills. However I’ve been told by a lot of people that it’s a difficult A-level with a lot of work in it, and I’m worried that working towards that may cause me to get lower overall grades, which could affect uni applications.

Any advice towards either would be very very appreciated!!

Heyy, It's always a difficult decision to choose subjects, but if you have any possible idea on what course you want to do in the future, you can research into those courses and see which subject is more valued.

I know that in my sixth form we can take up to 4 a-level options (i chose math, bio, chem and psych) and you can drop one after AS level (im dropping psych) so you could possibly ask your sixth form if they allow that. Also, in my sixth form we had "learning coaches" who could guide you into picking the best subject combo for you, but if you don't have them you can ask the subject teachers or the head of your sixth form instead.

You can also go to your sixth form's open days and look more into the content of the subjects to see if you actually like them because hearing about the subject doesn't always paint a good picture of how well YOU may do (btw it's no biggie if you feel you chose wrong as most sixth forms allow you to switch or drop subjects within the first month).
Hopefully this helps and good luck! xx

Talk to relevant teachers. Look at the course materials if you can. What texts/plays etc are covered in Drama (will this get boring alongside Eng Lit?), and read the more detailed unit descriptions in the Psychology course.

Don't worry about what 'looks good' or seems 'relevant' to your other subjects.
Its far more important that you enjoy what you are studying - it will mean that you are more motivated to study and more likely to get good grades.
