Nottingham self catered accomm

Hey! Trying to decide between Notts accommodation, so any help would be appreciated!

Broadgate park is known for being more social, and is nearer to my campus (University Park, mainly humanities building), but it is shared bathroom (not a massive issue but still) and slightly more expensive (£147).

The other option is Newark Hall (self catered). It is further from my campus and main building, but online is says that there are hopper buses free of charge, and the time doesn't seem to be too extensive for these journeys. Additionally, it is a lot cheaper (£136) and this includes an en suite bathroom. I may be entitled to financial aid for accomm due to a disability, but I'm yet to have a reply to my email.

If anyone has experience with either of these, what was it like? Are there any other accommodations you would recommend (self catered and under 170 P/W ideally)? Additionally, what are the hopper buses like? Are they reliable? Are there hidden fees?

Thanks!

Hello!

Yes, Newark is in Jubilee but there are bus stops nearby, so commuting to University Park is fairly easy and stress free with the Hopper Bus. The only thing you need is your university card to get on the bus!

If you prefer to walk, I would budget between 15-40min to get to wherever you need to go in University Park. If you study Engineering, for instance, it would take you around 15min to walk from Newark. Alternatively, in the event you need to go to David Ross Sports VIillage, then you'd be looking at approximately 40min to get there.

All the best,

Hi! I'm also thinking of opting for newark hall (self-catered) but I've never lived in university halls and wondering how the kitchen situation works. Does everyone in the hall have access to all the kitchens even the one on your corridor? and if so does that mean if I meal prep or go on a grocery run it may not be best to keep them in the kitchen? Would appreciate any insight? Thanks!!

Hello!

When I was in a self-catered accommodation I never had issues when it came to the kitchen. I had a cupboard only for my things so there was no issues in that regard. In principle, each flat has its own kitchen.

I hope it helps,
Abian.

Hi!
I thought since its university halls there aren't really flats its more like a corridor of rooms. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello!

It depends a bit on hall to hall I believe. Nonetheless. the best bet is to fill in the enquiry form (Student Living: Accommodation Services) to get in touch with the accommodation services. By doing so, you will get a more accurate picture 🙂 .

All the best,
Abian.

Yes the hopper bus is free. I’ll let you know the Atrium (food hall) in Newark sucks. When I went, the salad tastes like it’s dipped in bleach and the fruits were rotten 9/10 times. Fruit which I would buy. A group and I would add salt and pepper and cry while eating the dinner. Try to cook for yourself if you can - ITS WORTH IT!!!!!!!

You’ll have access to a kitchen but the kitchen is very basic. Just a microwave there (if even that), a sink, and NO place to cook your pan, there is no oven. It’s very basic. Because if you’re in Newark, you get the food from atrium.

I'm going for the self catered option at newark and was told there would be a kitchen for self catered, just wanted more clarification on the situation since I don't think its like a flat that shares a kitchen type of thing.

my reply is to this specifically(mistake). I'm going for the self catered option at newark and was told there would be a kitchen for self catered, just wanted more clarification on the situation since I don't think its like a flat that shares a kitchen type of thing.

Hello, I hv been eyeing on Lincoln Hall but for the past weeks, options available lessened. First year applicants book for accommodation from 1/4/25. Would it b the returning students who booked most of Lincoln Hall? Any idea? I noticed is the same for Cripps Hall too. Thanks.

Hello @username6073052!

The process for returning students is slightly different, and there is usually a number of slots destined to them. Nonetheless, the university has a commitment to offer a place to all new students in September!

If you have more specific queries, I highly recommend you to get in touch with the accommodation team. Here is the information should you need it in the future: Accommodation UoN

All the best,
Abian.
