IB options choices - Maths AA HL

Hi everyone,
I am a student in year 11, with my IB options deadline coming up very soon.
I am looking to study biomedical sciences, does anyone know if maths AA Hl is required at top unis?
Lots of my teachers tell me that AA HL is incredibly challenging, is it really that hard to get at least a 6? alongside chem hl and bio hl, is it doable ?
im no maths genius, but i do well at gcse now and with hard work and dedication, you can do anything no?
thank you - so if any IB maths students have tips or advice, it wold be very
Look at a variety of unis entry requirement for biomed, they have to state whether a course is required, recommended, preferred etc
Can’t help with the rest of the question cos i dont do IB

If you check the requirements for unis then see what they are, they usually rant too specific on the maths course for IB. I am doing HL AI maths which is challenging but do able and much more enjoyable then the AA course (from what I hear anyway) the applications course is much more statistical based which I guess is good for data analysis needed for Biomed? It seems much harder to do well in maths AA but if you want to do it go for it! I chose AI as I want to go into Veterinary science and the medicine applicants at my school are all doing AI too. Hope this helps.

Hey I do maths AA higher and all of the unis I applied in yr 12 said you have to do it (I applied to all science courses) but I think for most they’ll just say it’s preferred but not required, so if your application is strong u should be fine with AI

AA HL maths is genuine hell. Like most people who start with it end up dropping it even in beginning yr13. They pick up hl English or another subject they wont have to do too much catching up with. Unless you need it do not do it. The IB is so manageable without it- there’s no point making your life complicated, you will just end up not making the grades for top unis. I am saying this when i got 98% of further maths gcse and 92% on FSMQ in yr 11. Look at your uni requirements and if you do need it just stay on top of it
