I am going to assume that this is a serious question and not a spoof.

If you turn down two of the best universities in the World and go to a small local university instead, you might find yourself regretting that decision for years to come.

Try to identify why you are nervous about moving away from home and address the reasons for your nervousness. Moving away from home is something which most people do at some point. Travel between Nottingham and London or Nottingham and Oxford is easy, and modern technology facilitates keeping in contact with your family.

As between Imperial and Oxford, I suggest Oxford because of your nerves. You may find collegiate life more supportive than being a member of a large university in a huge city. An Oxford college is a community, and your subject cohort and year group will be relatively small. I am not knocking Imperial, it's a very good place, but it offers a different student experience, and London can sometimes be overwhelming.

Note that at Oxford the terms are two weeks shorter than they are at Imperial, so you would have more time at home with your family. Oxford colleges are welcoming to family members. My Mum feels like she's an honorary member of my college. You can invite family members to college dinners, and events such as summer garden parties, Christmas carol services, and so on. There are guest rooms for overnight stays.

NB the workload at Imperial and Oxford are intense. The Oxford chemistry degree is perhaps one of the hardest in the World, but your offers from Imperial and Oxford show that you are capable of performing at that level. To be blunt, at NTU your student peer group would not be at your academic level and you might become bored and frustrated.

I suggest that you embrace the challenge and go to Oxford. Not for prestige, not for career prospects, but for the intellectual and social experience.

I mean career prospects are important too
