Student Finance - National Insurance Number

Hello,

I'm applying with my son (I'm his appointee) and we filled in the application online. However I've gone into the system today to see it's been approved but there's an issue with the national insurance number.

It says "You've entered a National Insurance number that matches one we already have on our system"

It says they need us to upload evidence, however when we click in that page the submit button is greyed out so we can't upload anything. I don't have his National Insurance letter to hand (would probably have to apply for another from HMRC) and I don't really want to send his original PIP award letter either.

I'm not sure what the issue can be, he's never had student finance before. He has an EHCP, and the only contact with anything to do with Student Finance was when my eldest daughter was applying and I think because my son receives PIP we had to put down how much that was if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You don't have to apply for another NI number. Follow the instructions on the following link to get confirmation of your son's current number:

Sorry for the confusion, we've already got the number but I don't know where the original letter is so I'd have to send off for a new letter.

Hi did you manage to sort this ? We’re having the same problem . My daughter’s finance says approved but still awaiting confirmation of her Nino . It won’t let us upload evidence as the button is greyed out ! Student finance haven’t emailed for proof of national insurance number and she has never applied before . She got an email 10 days ago saying her finance has been approved but we have just seen this incomplete note when we logged into the account ?

Hi, I’m having a similar issue to the person you replied to. My application for my student finance has been approved but I logged on today to see a notification saying I have actions to complete such as my national insurance number. I went on to complete this as to not delay my application but it won’t let me upload evidence. I’ve not been contacted or alerted about this outside of my student finance account. Do I need to upload anything or not? Thanks x

Also having this issue! Changed my course from Nottingham to Sheffield on results day, finance approved, but says that the NI that I entered matches one on the system. The “upload” box for payslips etc is greyed out!

This shouldn't be a problem at all, rest assured.

Once your application is approved again this will change. If it doesn't, however, please let us know.

mine is doing the same. so once my changed application is approved it should let me add evidence for my national insurance number?

Hi, I did this a couple of days ago, and the chat box assured me that my NINO had been updated, but my user portal appears exactly the same, (still appears to be missing my NINO, with no way to enter it). Is this a technical issue on my end?
