A level law work experience

Hello
I am trying to help my 17 year old with applying for the above- she wishes to become a solicitor. Do far, we have had no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions of alternatives, within the legal sector? My friend has contacts at the local court, but they have advised that they no longer do work experience.

Thanks

My advice is not to worry about this. If your daughter is thinking of studying law at university (and as you may know she could study any subject and still become a solicitor thereafter), no university will expect any prospective student to have work experience in the legal sector.

Your daughter could visit local civil and criminal courts. All hearings are open to the public save when questions involving children, business secrets, or national security are involved. NB: court hearings can be quite dull!

Hi there NoodlehsMum, I am mum to 20 yo son who is currently applying for Solicitor Apprenticeships (our 3rd year). He is currently a legal assistant at a London law firm. We have found some virtual work experience offered at the following London law firms - Watson Farley Williams, Freshfields and Slaughter and May. Not the same as actually going to a firm, but something useful to do over the summer hols perhaps. Also we found that asking EVERYBODY we know yielded a result when he was looking in Year 12. It was via his hairdressers girlfriend! So you really need to be asking everyone you know - don't be shy !! Hope that helps.
