Starting physiotherapy at Cardiff in 2025 Clodien or Talybont?

I went to check out the accommodation and love the actual quality of rooms in Clodien and the proximity to the hospital but concerned about the options for socialising. I don't want a massive party place but get the sense that Talybont has much more of a student life vibe. however, physio students only get a choice of Talybont North which is old, tired and has tiny rooms. Any physio students on here made a decision on accomodation in Cardiff?

Hiya!

Not a physio student, but hopefully I can provide some helpful input, having lived in Talybont North in first year.

Personally, if your ultimate goal is socialising, the only difference there is, is that Talybont is closer to the Student Union than Clodien is (by a few minutes). Its definitely very lively, as it is known for its parties haha. But I would say that any first year student accommodation is pretty lively in itself, as everyone is open and eager to make friends. Even if you get a flat with people who are quieter, there are opportunities to socialise in your course, at societies etc (for example, many societies like to go on regular night outs together!).

That being said, in my opinion Talybont North is decent! I found that it had quite a nice cosy vibe, rather than a sense of feeling in an tiny enclosed space, if that makes sense. Everyone has different preferences for their living spaces though - so it might not be for everyone. My friends who lived in Clodien said they really enjoyed it

I chose Clodien... it's sooo close to the hospital so convenient for getting up in the mornings. The rooms are really nice, in good condition and large compared to North tallybont - which are much smaller and need updating. I was concerned about missing out on social side of Tallybont but have since spoken to people in Clodien who have said it's great, a good social life and easy to get into town /student union.

How social of an accommodation is closing house? It’s because it’s slightly away from Talyont?

Hiya!

To be honest, I think most flats/accommodation options will be pretty social because you're surrounded by other first years who also want to be social  Talybont is known for being quite sociable, and sometimes some students from other accommodations drop by, but honestly, it's not like Talybont is the main hub for socials and parties if that makes sense! Clodien House is quite nice if you're a healthcare student especially, as you're socialising with other students who are likely to have similar schedules as you. I'd say that you might find it hard to socialise if you end up choosing a studio though - I'd say shared flats are the way to go!
