Midwifery at Greenwich (Sept 2025)

I started midwifery at the Medway campus with Greenwich university last September. I had to suspend my studies and defer to this coming September because of a number of personal reasons disrupting me (bereavements, illness... it was neverending!)

So I've been through the first few months of the course, completed the first assignment and had a taste of placement. Is there anyone with an offer for Greenwich at Medway on here? Happy to chat and give you any general advice or help based on what I learnt. Would be good to connect to others before starting too (although I realise it's only March... might be jumping the gun...) as one of the best things about it last year was how together and supportive the group was.

Feel free to DM me on here 🙂

how did you find the workload and placement(everyone says placement is very hard as there are midwives who are not willing to help you and shout at you 😅)

Thank you x

Hey! I actually commuted in every day. The workload is a bit overwhelming at first, there's just so much to learn. There's no gradual buildup at all either, it's full speed from day one. It has to be that way though because there's only so much time spare with the placement hours to do as well. The staff are absolutely incredible though and a great support and so I never felt stressed about getting things done.

As for placement.. I have no doubt there are the occasional 'bad eggs' (Easter pun...) but from the very brief experience I had out on placement, the staff were all very welcoming and supportive and seemed excited to have new students. I highly doubt anyone would ever get shouted at 😆 Placement is exciting, especially after doing a lot of theory, because it's a proper taste of doing the job for real.

Are you going to Avery Hilll or Medway?

The timetable varies but I'd say it averaged out to be about 3.5 days per week. We did have one day which was 9am - 7pm, that was a bit mad... the assignments are scattered across the year, so I had one essay which needed to be done by November, then we had an A&P exam in early January, another essay which was due in for mid February.

It does all make your head spin at first, but once you get used to everything it's fine.

No problem, ask as much as you want 😀

The induction weeks last year started on September 9th, with the actual modules starting on the 23rd.
