SFW to SFE?

I’m completing my degree this June and have been using my parents address in Wales to send all the SLC letters to.
I’ve accepted an offer for teacher training down in London from this September (25/26) but I’m not able to move until around the end of July.
Am I able to apply to this course through SFW or will I have to change it over to SFE?

I’m going to be living with my partner and put his income on the forms etc. so idk if they’re going to accept my parents address since it’s in Wales.

Hi there, where do you ordinarily reside? Is this in Wales or in England? Have you ever made any applications for Student Finance before? Thanks, Stephen.

My family home is in Wales, I’ve had student finance for the past 3 years from SFW.

I’m only concerned because me moving to London is going to be a permanent change and not just for the course, so by the time the course starts I would ‘ordinarily reside’ in London as I’m not coming back to Wales.

Hi there, normally we would advise that if you finish your original undergraduate course and then start your new course (without any break in your studies) to apply to the same award authority as you have applied to previously (SFW).

However, if a student was originally living and studying in Wales, and has permanently moved to another part of the UK (England), and they are now starting a new course where there is more than the normal long vacation period between the two courses (normally no more than 5 months), then they can apply to the new award authority that they now reside in. However, they will be asked to demonstrate that their place of ordinary residence has genuinely changed.

Thanks, Stephen.

I think you'll find that the masters funding is more generous from SFW than SFE.

Just to check, is it a PGCE course you're thinking of studying, or something like that?

Thanks, Graeme

Yes it’s a school centred PGCE course, SCITTELS (school centred initial teacher training in east London schools)

Thank you. Students who relocate to a different domicile after completing their UG course and choose to continue studying with no gap between courses (other than the normal vacation period) should continue to apply to the same award authority. This is because you would be treated as currently residing in the domicile for the purposes of study. Thanks, Jason
