EYITT or PGCE

Hi, i'm currently studying Early Years and will graduate in 4 months. i am just deciding what to do next with either a EYITT or PGCE 3-7 with QTS. i want to be an Early Years Teacher so ideally the EYITT would be better fitted for me, however i just wanted to see if anyone who has gained this degree has found it 'easy' to get a job, or if QTS was found to be more valid. When looking for jobs, I am struggling to find many jobs advertising for EYTS, only QTS. Thanks in advance!

I would advise you to do a PGCE for various reasons:

1.

Within a PGCE, you have the option to specialise in specific age groups you know you like. For example the PGCE 3-7 like you mentioned, or the general PGCE 5-11.

2.

A PGCE with QTS allows you to teach all ages, regardless of what age group you specialised in! So, if you ever decide you want to work with older children, you won't be restricted.

3.

Most primary schools prefer teachers to hold QTS, even for nursery and reception teacher roles.

4.

PGCE is a recognised valid teaching qualification in many countries, which is useful if you ever want to explore teaching abroad.

I personally did the PGCE with QTS specialising in 3-7 and absolutely loved it.

Thankyou so much! i really am considering it just as i want to be able to have all options like you said! I would love to hear more about the EYITT as it seems like such a good qualification, but again like you said it doesn’t seem to be as recognised in primary schools as the QTS does!
