UEA MA Creative Writing Prose Fiction - Living in Norwich Mandatory?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has done the MA in Creative Writing Prose Fiction at UEA and knows if it's feasible to commute from London? It seems as though in-person workshops are only twice a week, if I'm not mistaken. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi. I can't comment on your specific course, I'm sorry. But as someone who lives locally, I can only comment on the trains. If I were you, I'd consider that the train situation here isn't the most reliable (in my experience), and as I understand it would probably involve a change of some kind and be around a ~2hr journey from London. And then as the UEA campus isn't exactly close to the city centre, it would then involve a bus (15mins) or a half hour walk. Hope that helped!

Hi @Anushae93

I'm a current UEA masters student and you'd likely be looking at around a 1 hour 45 minute train ride each way from London Liverpool Street to Norwich. You would then need to get a 25/26 bus to the university which comes every 7 minutes during the week and takes around 30/40 minutes. You can find out more about the buses here.

As for your course, I take Economics and am in roughly three days a week, as is my friend in the School of Education, but you can speak to current students on similar courses to you and get a feel for your timetable.

I hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions about UEA or accommodation, let me know 😊

Hi there! I was offered a place on the MA Prose Fiction at UEA starting in Sep and I am looking into the whole rent situation at the moment (I might be a bit early though…) and I was wondering: how do I find other future students (hopefully MA and PhDs) who are looking to buddy up? Are there online groups listing who’s looking? Thanks!

Hi, congrats on being offered a place! I think it will depend if you want to live on campus or not, for instance I know masters students on the MA Prose Fiction who were housed with other Masters students. Otherwise, UEA have some recommendated online groups here. I found my second-year accom using UniHomes so that's worth a look too and keep a look out for any UEA Official Facebook groups as people will always be looking for housemates!

Does that help?
