GSA Student Accommodation 2025

Hi! I'm going into my first year at Glasgow School of Art this September, and the applications for accommodation just came out and I'm debating on whether to go for Margaret Macdonald House or Blytheswood House and I live too far away from the uni to visit.

All of the reviews that I've seen on both are a few years old so I was wondering if anyone currently living in halls or that knows anything about how living in the halls have been recently could give a little bit of input as to which one would be better?

Hi! I've also been accepted into GSA starting in September and am hoping to stay in halls too! I'm going to apply for Margaret MacDonald house as it's cheaper haha however I think Blythswood house is more modern and a little nicer (but pricier). If you can afford it I think Blythswood house would be great, it has creative areas for making art etc.

What course are you going into? I've been accepted for direct 2nd year entry for painting and printmaking 🙂

Maybe I'll see you around!

Both student accommodation in Glasgow, Margaret Macdonald and Blytheswood have their pros. Margaret Macdonald is super close to campus (5-min walk), which is clutch for early studio sessions or popping back between classes. It’s lively, social, and has great common areas, but rooms are smaller and some bathrooms are shared. Blytheswood is a 15-20-min walk/bus ride, quieter, with slightly bigger rooms (most en-suite), and modern kitchens. If you prioritize convenience/buzz, go Margaret Macdonald. If you want more space/peace, Blytheswood is the one.
