Parents living abroad

Hi

I'm reaching out to you in relation to the following query:

# I'm a dual English and French National studing at University in the UK (2nd year). I was born and lived in the UK all my life. I have been able to access the University Fee & Maintenance Loans system over the past 2 years.

# My parents are French nationals who have worked and lived in the UK for the past 30 years. They are both holding the UK Settled Status.

# My parents are currently exploring to work and live abroad over the coming years, which will overlap with my final years at University. As part of this evolution, it is likely that they will not own a house in the UK anymore, therefore will not be permanent resident in the UK anymore and would not pay any taxes in the UK anymore.

# My query: what are the potential implications of my parent working and living abroad to my ability to continue accessing the UK university loans system? If I understand correctly the other similar messages on this chat space, it will be all ok as long as my parents complete the so-called PFF2 form with their annual income data. Is that correct? Is there anything else that I or my parents need to do/ check to make sure I can still access the student fee & maintenance loans over the coming years and finish my University studies in the UK?

Thanks so much in advance for your help on this topic.

Best Regards

Dominique

Hi Dominique, can you confirm that you will still be a resident in the England yourself during this time? What age are you currently? How long does your course have left to run? What is your plans after you complete your current course? (No further studies? Masters? Doctoral? etc.) Thanks, Stephen.

Thanks so much Stephen for your help on this.

I'm 20 years old. I'm a resident in the UK, have been for the past 20 years, will continue to be during my University studies (probably another 3 years)...and will most likely work and live in the UK...but hard to say over the long-term! ;-)

As an extra question if I may...as your queries made me think about it...am I obliged to live and work in the UK to pay back my university loans or is it possible to do that from abroad? I assumed it was but I never looked at the rules associated to loan repayment in full detail...

Hope this helps and answer your queries. Let me know if you have any others I can help with.

Thanks again for your help on this, that's much appreciated!

Best Regards

Hi Dominique,

Your parents can still support your application if you are under 25 and don't have 3 years of self support prior to the very first day of your course.

Even if they are outside of the UK, they can still provide their details to support your application. Thanks, Jason

Sorry...and just to confirm...the only document my parents will need to complete is the PFF2 form...is that correct? Are there any other documents we need to be aware of/ complete as well?

Thanks so much!

We don't deal with repayments on here, sorry. You can find more information on this here: Repaying your student loan: Overview - GOV.UK

We will need the PFF2 form only from your parents. Thanks, Leah.
