Sheffield or Queens uni belfast for aerospace engineering

Im an international student and i applied for:
University of Sheffield: International Foundation Year in Engineering (1 year), followed by a 3-year Aerospace Engineering degree, with plans to include a placement year. However, after the foundation year, I would need to return home for 3 months, reapply for a visa, and then proceed with the course.
INTO Queen’s University Belfast: International Year One (IY1) Sandwich program, which combines the first year of my degree with a foundation year. This option allows me to complete the program in 4 years, including the placement year, without needing to reapply for a visa or leave the UK.
I am leaning toward Belfast because it seems to be the cheaper option overall. However, I’ve heard that living expenses and accommodation in Belfast might actually be more expensive than in Sheffield.I am considering the quality of education. I know Sheffield has a strong reputation for Aerospace Engineering, and I want to be sure that Belfast offers a similar standard of education and placement opportunities.
I also plan to take a placement year regardless of which university I attend.
I wanted to ask if:
Belfast truly the more affordable option considering both tuition and living costs?
How does the education quality and industry connections for Aerospace Engineering compare between the two universities?
Would you recommend one option over the other in terms of long-term benefits, especially regarding placement and career prospects?

Hi Ingrid.x, 👋

It's great to hear you have applied to the University of Sheffield! 😃

I did my undergraduate degree and master's degree both at Sheffield and now I'm back for my PhD because I love the university! 🏛️

I would say that living costs in Sheffield are pretty good and personally I love it most for all its green spaces like Weston Park, Endcliffe Park and the Botanical Gardens (my personal favourite!) 🌳

The various Engineering degrees at Sheffield are great. We have an excellent research and teaching record. My partner did chemical engineering here with a year in industry and he loved it! The department is really supportive in helping you find somewhere you will enjoy for your placement. 🙌

In terms of career prospects of our Aerospace engineering students, 93% are in employment within six months of graduating with an average starting salary for our graduates is £27,000. 💸

We also have a range of great industrial partners such as The Faculty Aerospace Network (FAN), a vibrant community of academic staff, students, graduates and industrial partners who come together to share knowledge and information about aerospace engineering research and innovation. 👨*🏫

Our careers service is also amazing and supportive. You can book 1-1 meetings with the careers team to discuss placements, graduate roles, and career paths. 😀

Both universities you suggest are great options! But please let me know if you have any more questions about studying at/in Sheffield! 😄

All the best,
Phoebe
